DAVOS 2027 · VENUES & PERMISSIONS

The pavilion window is tight. The event brief can still change.

Planning a private activation for 18–22 January 2027? Start by separating new temporary builds from existing rooms and ordinary hospitality. A different format may be viable, but it is never automatically permit-free.

THE OCTOBER 2026 POSITION

There is a cap. It is not a blanket ban on meeting.

Davos introduced a 125-project limit on temporary construction for the 2027 annual meeting. On 15 October 2026, Swiss news agency reporting said 21 of 146 assessed projects had been rejected, leaving 125 within the allocated quota.

This does not mean that every corporate dinner, private meeting or existing event space is prohibited. Nor does renting a hotel suite or chalet give you blanket permission to change its use. The decision turns on the property, the proposed activities, occupancy, branding and any building, fire-safety or operational changes.

DECISION FRAMEWORK

Four venue types.
Four different questions.

Use these as early qualification questions, not legal conclusions. A landlord's enthusiasm is no substitute for the right permission.

01

An existing meeting room

Will the room be used for its normal authorised purpose, with the usual occupancy and no new structural changes?

Before proceedingAsk the owner to confirm permitted use, guest count, security and any notification obligations.

02

A private dinner in a restaurant

Is this normal restaurant service, or will the site be reconfigured, rebranded or operated differently?

Before proceedingConfirm the operator’s permissions for the actual guest format, catering, privacy and hours.

03

An apartment or chalet

Does private hosting become a change of use once you add outside guests, signage, equipment or daily programming?

Before proceedingDo not assume residential property is automatically cleared for commercial events. Obtain property-specific advice.

04

A branded shop or temporary pavilion

Will you change a façade, install street-facing branding, construct an element or convert the use of a shop?

Before proceedingTreat this as a likely permitting issue and verify whether the required 2027 approvals already exist.

A PRACTICAL PLAN B

If a new house is no longer practical.

Do not substitute the word “lounge” for “pavilion” and assume the rules disappear. Change the operational model, then confirm it genuinely fits the existing venue's permissions.

  1. One hosted dinner. A restaurant's existing dining service may suit a relationship-building objective with less staging, subject to the precise use and any required consent.
  2. A sequence of private meetings. Use a lawful existing office or meeting room where the property allows the actual programme and headcount.
  3. A small executive roundtable. Give an existing suitable room one clear purpose, rather than promising a week-long public programme.
  4. An existing independently organised event. Explore a transparent collaboration with the real organiser; do not imply official World Economic Forum access.

THE SIX-DOCUMENT CHECK

Ask for evidence before paying a deposit.

  • 01Signed proposal with legal venue operator, dates, permitted use and any venue restrictions
  • 02Written status of building approvals, notifications and fire-safety / occupancy conditions
  • 03Access route, load-in hours, signage and technical installation permissions
  • 04Supplier responsibilities: catering, staffing, insurance, security and waste
  • 05Itemised Swiss taxes, cancellation terms, deposit exposure and currency
  • 06A named person responsible for the venue and a workable fallback format

NO SHORTCUT TO APPROVAL

What we can sensibly help scope.

Tell us your dates, headcount, outcome and budget envelope. We can compare formats, prepare venue and supplier questions and identify what needs local confirmation before anyone promises delivery.

No venue inventory, specific approval, access credential or authority relationship is claimed on this page. Final compliance assessments belong to the relevant Swiss authorities and qualified local advisers.

THE NEXT BUYER DECISION

What the permit position means for your event format

A restriction on temporary construction does not answer whether your particular event is permitted. These next checks depend on the space and production method, not a generic Davos-week label.
